Specialists in Canine Search and Rescue

Absaroka Search Dogs of Montana train search dogs, sometimes called rescue dogs, to assist with search and rescue efforts for lost or missing individuals. We are training search dogs year round to respond to calls related to missing and or lost people in the montana backcountry or frontcountry. We train dogs for trailing, tracking, air scenting, avalanche and water searches.

Law Enforcement across Montana and northern Wyoming have repeatedly requested Absaroka Search Dogs K9 SAR teams to assist in searches for lost people. They know that when an ASD SAR dog locates a lost person, the life-saving skills of human searchers are always close at hand.

Highly Trained and Ready to Respond

ASD dog handlers are trained in backcountry travel including map and compass, global positioning system (GPS) use, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, summer survival, winter survival, mantracking, and search and rescue operations.

ASD dog handlers have a minimum certification of advanced first aid or first responder. Most members are certified in wilderness emergency medicine and can provide immediate life support to injured victims. Skills range in wilderness emergency medicine from wilderness advanced life support at the paramedic level, wilderness emergency medical technician (WEMT) to wilderness first responder (WFR). Experienced ASD dog handlers are willing to fill a need during searches in the backcountry, avalanches, rivers and lakes by request from law enforcement. Contact us.

501(c)3 Non-profit Volunteers

An all volunteer group, Absaroka Search Dogs depends on teamwork. Teamwork built on the trust between a human handler and a canine search partner. This kind of trust may take years to nurture. ASD depends on cooperation between search dog teams and the rest of a SAR unit. Time spent training, and money spent on search and rescue gear, training courses, medical certification, and transportation all comes out of pocket, and from the heart.
